Dwelling upon, and digging into the person’s history to know them when the person is right there in the now with you suggests something of a dysfunctional dynamic. Are you in love with the person, or their history.

BECAUSE APPROACHING THE OBJECT OF DESIRE, OUR INTELLECT IS SO DEEPLY ABSORBED THAT MEMORY CANNOT FOLLOW IT ALL THE WAY. (DANTE)

No one intellectualizes about a cool drink of water, eating a favorite sandwich, being with their favorite love interest; you don’t need the intellectual noise—you just take in the moment, you just enjoy it. Intellectualizing about that kind of stuff spoils the moment; so you shut down the analysis machine, in fact that machine is usually put into gear when things just ain’t working right. It’s like sitting on a bench of splint needles. That’s why you sit in an easy chair, you don’t feel the annoyances of rough edges and start to wonder, is my love interest seeing someone else? What’s up with this sandwich? This water is wrong. No one I know hooks up sensory probes and lie detectors to their friends. The person is your friend and that friendship is not strengthened by continual doubting, or handling them with intellectual probes. You do, and you won’t have that friend for long. Who want’s to be doubting their husbands/wives 24/7 except when a divorce in the cards.

Is your friend like your car that requires routine inspection?

Dwelling upon, and digging into the person’s history to know them when the person is right there in the now with you suggests something of a dysfunctional dynamic. Are you in love with the person, or their history. It is the kind of relationship that God desires to have with us that is free of probes and intellectualizing; in fact he mentions a sort of level of communication, and relating that is free of words saying I will speak to you with my eyes….guide you with my eyes. There’s something that happens with just one look, and you just know; something about intuition….,knowing without words; knowing without history. Records can be falsified or distorted or misplaced, but the person who is there in the now with you. You can look them in the eye and know, and if you can’t make a vital assessment of the present witness, how on earth can you reach back through the dim mist of history and do so.

The object of love bears the witness of love at subterranean depths of consciousness seen on no sleeves; it is no intellectual scheme, but a level of being…..a mantle enveloping.

The entire truth travels in currents at deeper levels than probes can fathom. It has a home there in the fixity of absolute faith, anchored in truth reflected from above. The object of love bears the witness of love at subterranean depths of consciousness seen on no sleeves; it is no intellectual scheme, but a level of being…..a mantle enveloping. Faith like intuition is the voice of truth that is now, not buried under the dust of history. You don’t have to dig through historical artifacts to know him because he is not a god of the dead, but of the living. It’s ok to have queries that are purely academic exercises to gain knowledge of history, but God deserves a better place with us than what is the cold elbo-room of history. The staggering majesty of God bringing himself so close to us in the now, renders all things aside, idle if not vain intrigue by comparison. Like constantly looking over your shoulders, or off upon some other distraction when your love interest is right there. God’s generosity is boundless, but he is not known to be overly eager to give his pearls to swine, nor those who would turn again to crucify him afresh.
