Things done according to the know boundaries of human mortal limitations are done in the tradition of man, and we know them very well—Jesus defied every one of them, even gravity, and death. He invites us to come out from captivity within the bounds of these limitations to him, like Peter joining him on the water. There was no script for this but Peter tried it anyway. Jesus is the script for your life in miracles.
If you have no script, you’ve got no plan but to strive to hear, or see what God is indicating for you to do. In order to liberate people held captive, you have to go where they are. The only reason Jesus became human was to lift us out of our human limitations; he didn’t come to join us in them.
The word of God is not the end game…not the kingdom of God; it is the vehicle by which the kingdom of God comes. If you put the word of God out there and there’s no power, people’s expectations become readjusted downward, till there’s no expectation
The word of God is not the end game…not the kingdom of God; it is the vehicle by which the kingdom of God comes. If you put the word of God out there and there’s no power, people’s expectations become readjusted downward, till there’s no expectation. The kingdom of God is not in word, it is in power; the power to do things. Surprisingly enough it comes from within you, but not in word. That word is sown within you at a time of weakness, when your strength has been weakened; but it grows up into Christ…is raised up in the strength, and power of God, and is distinctly not you. When I am weak, then I am strong; when I am dead, Christ comes alive—I am raised up as him in resurrection power. I’m not just talking about activism, or becoming motivated to get up, and go do some things that we know man is qualified to do by education, and professional training. Motivational speaking is what is done in churches today. Get you motivated to go, and do what man does.
The things that people can be empowered to do in man’s traditions God removed them from his church. The list include: the judge, the prudent, the prophet, the ancient, the honorable, the captain of fifty, the mighty man, the man of war, the eloquent orator, and the cunning artist.
People throw around the phrase “empowerment”. We’re not talking about what we can empower man to do. God threw that out long ago. He said: look, I take away form Jerusalem, and from Judah, the judge, the prudent, the prophet, the ancient, the honorable, the captain of fifty, the mighty man, the man of war, the eloquent orator, and the cunning artist. This encompasses the length and breadth of man’s capabilities. If in these things you find your life you shall loose it, but if proactively you loose the potential of your life here, you shall find it.
Get motivated to go do things in these capacities and you will have missed God’s perfect will. These things are good, but they are not perfect, they are scripted; go and see the libraries of scripts in the universities, or municipal libraries …..you cannot write a script for perfection, and for that reason, you won’t find it there either.
Time was you could just call your brother, or sister just that; brother or sister. Now there is this complicated hyphenation before their names: Dr. this, Judge that, attorney this…yada, yada, yada. You sit in church long enough and you’re bound to hear this one; (the preacher is interrupted by an announcement……the announcer reads a note—“will the person with license #2887086783375889494658787835JKJ34494JU447849489, please move your car—your liscense plate is blocking the driveway”). When the power of god doesn’t distinguish you, you have to distinguish yourself, and usually by these things that God has already thrown out of the church. At a certain place the question was asked; why do you aspire to be like these people, aren’t they the very ones who persecute you and bring you before the judgment, and put you into prisons? Though they have the appearance of respectability, they distract you from aspiring to achieve the same or greater things by faith on Jesus, the power of God to do the same.
When he instructed us to go without a script, Jesus didn’t mean that we were going to be without a script—you were just not going to be the one to bring it; he was going to come along and be the script for us…..live and in person, AKA the power of God, doing these.
We think about Saul who couldn’t wait for God anymore, so he went ahead and did what he had to do. He lost his crown doing what he thought was a good thing. It may well have been a good thing….but it was by no means the God thing—the perfect thing. God helps those who hopes in his mercy. If you go unscripted you set yourself up to be ridiculed, if god doesn’t show up. Most people can’t risk that, so they reach for that script.
Buried deep in our psyche are any amount of these little false-isms like God helps those who helps themselves. That couldn’t be farther from the truth. If you can help yourself, you don’t need God. He helps those who cannot help themselves. Witness the man at the pool of Bethsada; that man was laying there while Jesus was still in heaven….several years before he arrived in that little manger, in Bethlehem. As no one was there to help him, he waited there some thirty years while Jesus was doing carpentry with his father, until at last he donned the mantle of the mighty God, and the cloak of the zeal of God, and went to visit him.
And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk? ….we … through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. Acts 13:12
By the word of his power God upholds all things. If he meant the power of his word, he would have said it that way. One expression suggests a certain quantity of power that is word specific, the former however indicates that all his power is in his word….Jesus is the power of God in person, and all things are gathered together in him.
If we are putting out the word of God and there’s no power of God showing up in signs and wonders doing God things, is it because we are putting out words that do not require the power of God to show up. The contest over the salvation of souls happens internally, and often unobserved; sings and wonders are meant to be observed by unbelievers. Try driving around the city and not observe the signs and see just what kind of trouble you can get into. Well sings are for unbelievers so they can believe—that’s where Jesus does the preaching, and the teaching, and the doctoring, and the lawyering….all those things that he threw out of the church, which when done by men, men see you instead of him.
When we do the things according to professional scripted training, no one is God-smacked at the results; like they were….transfixed, and marveling so much that Peter had to stand up and clear up things. Doing God things, gives an opportunity to explain Christ to people who are wondering. Without the power of God there’s nothing to explain, so we get that old script. This was not done by our power, Peter explained. Jesus is the word of God that is sown into your life, and grows up into the fullness of the perfect man. Having sown the word of God for Jesus to show up….when he show up as you, and you as him, you shall say to this mountain be removed from this place and carried unto yonder place, and it shall be done for you of The father in heaven who doeth all the works that I have done. Nothing shall be impossible unto you….. SOW, SAY IT…..Move that mountain—unscripted.
