THE TRADITIONS OF MAN

The traditions of man will make void the word of God, and keep man severely limited in the box of his humanity. All those things that are impossible with man are possible with God therefore in exchange for man's limitations God has given us the gift of himself in Christ so now nothing should be impossible to us as we direct our better energies and skills in the ministry of reconciliation.

Much like Israel hiding in dens and caves of the earth from the intimidation of Goliath, the church remains asleep because it cannot find the mortal courage to go forward to the looming question that with each passing year looms even bigger. If God has made such absolute and sweeping boasts of his majestic workmanship in us, the new creation why then the vapid image we present to the world. We by denial, and in abandoning our God ordained purpose throw out false rationalizations that such boasts that God makes of us is not for now, but for a time to come.

By the traditions of man, even though we were to see God we would not know him

Men over the years have sought to assert the worth of man in ambitious projects like the tower of Babel, missions to the moon and beyond, but why the church cowers in such a sniveling manner instead of taking up the challenge to the works of Jesus, never mind the greater works he spoke of, I may never understand. It seems we stand as a monolithic collective in a states of frozen paralysis called the “sleeping giant”. We might be helped if we could muster up such stirring words as JFK’s resolve in the space race against the Russians:

“But why, some say, the moon? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas?…We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.”

Facing the real prospect of a Russian space mission to the moon beating the Americans, the Kennedy/Johnson administrations declared their firm resolve in the famous quote—“we are not prepared to go to sleep under the light of a Russian moon….We choose to go to the moon and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard” In the face of daunting and challenging obstacles they proposed to complete a successful mission to the moon by the decades end.

In light of what God holds out to us as a mission, instead of changing the mission directive to accommodate our limitations perhaps we should adopt similar resolve as men who would achieve the impossible:

The things of God that we are to put on are: (unspeakable, unutterable, unsearchable, unlawful, invisible, no man has understood, nor seen, nor heard, nor known these things……they are in heaven, and God promises to show them to us) If God be for us…who can be against us.

Anything that is done in the church today you can take a man, and with sufficient training that man can also do those things; that is not the model of the church that Jesus set up on earth. These days you don’t even have to be saved to be preaching the Gospel. The reconciliation ministry model that God set forth by example is that where God the Father is in heaven working, and God who is Jesus in on earth working after the same pattern of things that God is doing in heaven. That is the model we are to follow, and it does not include man in the picture….. man is suppose todie and stay that way so that God who is Jesus whom we are commanded to put on can balance the equation of patterns of God in heaven and on earth, and the work of God in heaven and on earth. Isaiah declares of God’s work in this ministry of reconciliation where he takes vengeance on Babylon who (I will take vengeance and not meet you as a man) In order to be consistent with this pattern of God’s design we are asked to put on God who is Christ.

The things of God that we are to put on are: (unspeakable, unutterable, unsearchable, unlawful, invisible, no man has understood, nor seen, nor heard, nor known these things……they are in heaven, and God promises to show them to us). We are made in the image of God; not our limitations of the traditions of man, but the qualities of God should define us as we accomplish his mission objective for the reconciliation of the world.
