God’s name, YHWH                           God’s name is likeness     of man

God has only one name, which he identifies as his name forever. That name translated from the Hebrew language is I AM THAT I AM— (in Hebrew it is: yod he vav he, and  transliterated: YHWH, or YEHWEH). He gives it to be the memorial by which his is to be remembered in all the generations of mankind. Our system of names usually consists of a word that pictures the essential image of what we are, or what we are expected to be. For example the word, or image name Edgar, means great spearman. The concept of the man so named is that, he shall be a great spearman. We do not usually call to a man by his concept, or image name saying for instance: .…. hello, he shall be a great spearman! How are you? …we say, hello Edgar. With God’s name, it is the exact opposite.

The conceptual description, or image name for God which is, I AM THAT I AM is God’s name. God is everything and is in everything; all things consist of him, and all things consist by him.  We live, move and have our being in him. In this instance, rather than a proper noun, his name is more of a “proper verb” that describes a person whose essence is a fluid motion between one thing and another thing in meeting all our needs. A flowing or radiating of the things that he is. Sometimes God is Abba, then Light in whom there is no darkness, then Jehovah, then Adonai, then El Shaddai, then Ancient of Days etc. See link for list of names: http://smilegodlovesyou.org/names.html

Light which is what God is, happens to be the only known substance in the entire universe where when it is not in motion, it has no discernible mass, or substance. Though it is never at rest,  light has a zero rest mass.  The only way light is visible to our eyes is when it is in motion, traveling at a rate of 186,000 miles per second. Light is Electromagnetic radiation; electricity and magnetism radiating in waves from a central point. As such, at one moment it is observed as electricity, and then the next moment it is observed as magnetism moving at a distinct speed. This is much like the image concept of God.

1 Corinthians 8:1-10 We know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. As stated here there are many gods, and they all probably have names. The term god describes a category of beings. Because there is only one true god, we’ve come to regard the category name “god”, as the name of that true God, the Father.

Under his concept description name, I AM THAT I AM, all these other names of God are mere modifiers that describe the various modes of Yehweh’s being that he is being at any one moment. I AM THAT I AM, describes a person whose essence is an act; his being is not static but is always being one, or more; or simultaneously all of the titles which we often assume to be his names.

In Psalm 82 where God declares that because we all are his children, we also are gods, he is saying that we also fall under that same category of gods in Christ; for as he is, so are we in this world. This should be quite evident, for as in the natural so it is in the spiritual. Your children are very much like you in nature. We must allow the same for God; we are like him. In Christ we partake of, or share his nature. That nature is divine, and this nature pertain to gods, not man. That is precisely why he expects that while sharing this divine nature; we should do the same works as he does; because we subscribe to his identity in Christ.

Psalm 139:14 says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Apart from it’s appeal as good poetry, we can scarcely grasp the magnitude of what that means. If it is not possible for us to grasp that truth, it is because we are in full-blown flight away form the truth. We laugh at Israel’s grasshopper’s mentality when they saw themselves as nothing before the giants of Canaan. We however cannot appreciate our galactic inferiority complex where, when we look at Psalm 82:6 that says we are gods; we then hasten with all speed to declare, ‘well that just means little “gods” ’.  Even then, while saying we are little “gods” we still don’t quite get what we are saying. This denial is as absurd as trying on a cloudless day to deny the reality of the sun that is shining above and all around you. God calls this our turning of things upside down. The clay telling the potter he has no idea what he is has made. “God” also is under that category of little “gods” as well, because that little “gods” is simply the distinction of a particular life form category, and need not be capitalized. Where it says there are gods many, and lords, many; “god” is not a proper noun name. “god” describes a form of life like bird, or fish, or angels, or herbs or trees etc.

God also is listed among the many so-called “gods”, but because he is the only true god; that category distinction “god” becomes a proper noun name “God” for Yahweh. Jesus himself reiterated; is it not written in your law, I have said ye are gods. In Hosea 8:12 God complains; ‘I have written to them the great things of my law but they counted it as a strange thing (as heresy)’. If we wish to insist on that small “god”, we should know that God has called us by his holy name… “my people which are called by my name II Chronicles 7:14”.  We were made in his image. His memorial name is in us, in our image; to bring back the remembrance of God in the earth. When fifth century Jewish scribes wrote the memorial name of God, the Hebrew letter characters stacked one on top of the other resembled the image of a man. God made an image of himself and it was man; fearfully and wonderfully made to bring back the remembrance of God in the earth.

The very presence of man in the earth radiates dominion authority, but since Adam fell, that authority has force now only if that man is in Christ Jesus. The Jewish alphabet characters for God’s name “yod he vav he” I AM THAT I AM; as read right to left and stacked upright resembled the image of a man. God has given to us his name and all the things that make him God in Christ.
